| Description | Ménes hatched from the egg at a waterwork settlement in Szécsény, Pösténypuszta quarter. Its mother likewise is a ringed bird. Based on this we know that it hatched in a nest under 20. Dózsa György street in Ipolyvece, in 2009. The hen stayed in the neighbourhood in 2012 already, but it did not have a nesting period then. Started laying eggs in that nest first in 2013 from which Ménes and its siblings flew out. The father, the male bird is ringless.
Ménes and his nest sibling Pöstény got their loggers in the beginning of August. Unfortunately Pöstény has already suffered electric shock in the beginning of the migration at the South of Romania, near the Bulgarian border.
Ménes stayed in the Ipoly valley, at his birthplace until the middle of August. Then spent 2 days with his team in the area of Hortobágy, where birdwatchers managed to take a photo about the stork .Then it made a big circle between Berettyóújfalu and Nagyszalonta. Finally it left the country on the 18th August and spent the evening at the foot of the Carpathian Mountains. The next day it crossed the Carpathians. On the 19th it spent the night by the Danube in Romania, then on the 20th in Bulgaria already. On the 21st it arrived near by the Bulgarian-Turkish border, then on the 22nd passing accross Greece it arrived to Turkey, where instead of the regular route of crossing the Bosporus, it flew above the Marble sea. It reached the main migration route at the area of Konya in Turkey on the 24th and moved on already on that. It arrived to Syria on the 26th and spent the evening in the area of Aleppo. Next day it spent the night in the area of Damascus. It passed the Jordan border on the 28th and on the 29th the border of Israel, but on the same day it flew to Egypt. Crossed the Red Sea on the 30th and in the evening it arrived into the valley of Nile near to Dishna after a migration of 3700kms. It was probably captured there as its logger stopped sending sms’ for two days. The Egyptian authorities detain it currently. |
